| China Head Dolls |
| China heads of glazed porcelain were made primarily in Germany from 1840 to the 1920’s. Identifying China Heads according to manufacturer is nearly impossible. Facial features vary little. Most China Heads have painted blue eyes with a red line indicating an eyelid, full cheeks, and a small closed smiling mouth. Prior to 1880, most China Heads were sold separately. The buyer either purchased a body or made one. Some very early China Heads were attached to commercially—made wooden jointed bodies with china limbs. Many of these dolls were made by German Dollmakers, Alt, Beck & Gottschalck or Kling & Co. |
